H5 adapter install help!
 

I got my H5 adapters from Pelican today... it should have been a simple job... but "Ooooooooh no..." Couldn't make it simple can we???


Here's the problem...

My old bulb harness has a three pin connector with four wires leading to them.

The two brown wires I am assuming are ground.

Then there is the yellow wire and the blue wire.


SO the problem is... my new harness adapter comes with three Black wires!

How am I supposed to know where the black wires go???

while you are in there why don't you take care of that rust so it doesn't get any worse. sand down and prime.

Leland if you don't get a better answer I would go with process of elimination. Yes the two brown wires are the grounds. You have a plug from the wire harness that is high beam, low beam, and ground. One can deduce the the three black wires are also, high, low and ground. You can't hurt anything by miswiring the three wires, the light just won't work correctly. I would strip about 1/2 inch from each of the three black wires and insert one into each slot of the plug on the wire harness. Keep trying until the high/low beams work correctly. Number the plug and black wires one, two and three so you can keep track of what order you have done them in. You have 3 wires and 3 slots so you can only have 9 different combinations. Shouldn't take long to figure it out. If all that freaks you out then get a 4 foot length of wire. Strip each end 1/2 inch. Connect one end to battery. One at a time touch one black wire to good ground and "hot" wire to one of the other black wires until you see the high and low beams. On your plug to the wiring harness see if you can find out what color wire is high and low beam from the schematic. Then just match things up.

Or you can just do what Daryl suggests:)

Oh and Planter, that isn't rust... it's caked on dirt... I'll wipe em down again to keep it all clean.
