Stupid question on So Cal race track availability
 

Aside from PCA, how do you guys find "open track" days. I have looked at numerous web sites but it seems that you have to book a day months ahead of time. Can't you just show up? And if you can, how do you find out when the track is open to you.

The only sort of deal you can just show up for is open testing, which I wouldn't recommend if you're new to track driving. Shy of that, go to Chris Campbell's schedule page, or DrivingEvents.com, and look up when an event is. If you post here, you can probably find other people who are going to the same event. Alfa-Romeo of Southern California groups are getting poplular, because they never have enough Alfas and they offer lots of time at a cheap price.

But again, if you're starting on a track, you're going to need a group that offers instruction. For that, POC short tracks are good, as is Todd Serota's Tracquest.

First I'm not trying to steal your post Paul.

But I have thought about trying to set up a Pelican Heads track day at THunderHill, and wondered if anyone from the board would be interested. I looked at the prices and a mid-week rental of the track seems very doable, if we had at least 30 participants. Of course, the more people we had, the cheaper the price is per person.

Maybe have some of the great drivers like Jack, Thom, and the rest of you track junkies help with pointers.
