Reuse wave washer under chain tensioner nut?
I was planning to do the chain tensioner update this weekend and the only thing holding me up are the wave washers that go under the 13mm nut that holds the tensioner in place. The Pelican kit does not include new washers. The local Porsche dealer doesn't stock them and would have to be ordered and will take about a week to come in. Should I order them and wait or can I reuse the old ones?
Thanks! |
if the washers still retain there shape go ahead and reuse them, if your worried about he nut backing off use some blue loctite on the stud, clean it up good with carb cleaner first

If you put the fastener on at anywhere near the correct spec, there's no way it's going to come loose. I prefer new fasteners ans washers too, but I'm sure happy to reuse the old ones if necessary. It's really no big deal. Fasteners, properly torqued, don't come loose. And even if you failed to put the tensioner nut on altogether, I imagine it would be fine. There is nowhere for the tensioner to go.

Dito to what Superman says. I re-used mine and all is well.

Re-use with a drop of blue loctite, you'll be safe.
Just did the same on mine, I've got 10 minutes on the engine with no problems! :) BTW, wave washers are available form lots of metric supply places, not expensive, here's one: http://www.mrmetric.com/sys-tmpl/door/ |
Thanks for the advice. I'll follow up with a post after I complete the job.
