Wiper reset question

The wipers in my 85 911 carrera won't reset when I turn them off. They just stop wherever they are on the windshield when I turn the wipers off. What do I need to be fixing or replacing to resolve this issue?

I have the sterring column already apart.

Thanks for any help!

Make sure that the variable wiper speed switch on the dash is off, with a "click".

Not to hijack BUT ...My wipers do the same thing in a 79SC. Does the same rule apply ?

Yes it does.

The next step is either the relay, or the wiring.

Here's the CKT for the '85.

Sorry '79 Don't have your CKT.

Try this:

Manuals

Good luck,

The position of the variable speed pot shouldn't have any effect.
The wipers get the voltage to reset from pin 53a. Within the motor 53a is connected to 53e when not in park position, 53e in turn is connected to 53 (the first motor winding) via the wiper switch when in "Off" position.

- are there 12V at the red/white cable to the motor? If not -> wiring
- is there a connection between blue/white and black/violet when the switch is off? if not -> test switch. If switch is ok -> wiring

If all that works, next suspect would be the motor.

Wipers not parking? Usually its the stalk on the steering column, typically a grounding problem. Replacing the stalk is the easy way to fix it, do a search you should find posts about cleaning / fixing the contacts in the stalk.

hi guys...I had to take my wiper motor out for serbvice and now is working great but when I reset the wiper arms the wipers go to there stationary places at the bottom of the windsheild but when i go to turn the wipers on again, they dip down then move up and do their full cycle.

Is that normal for the wipers to move down towards the window edge and then go up on the screen or do i need to adjust the arm that is connected to the motor?...cheers

Not normal
You need to adjust the position of the arm on the motor shaft.
With the motor in park position, loosen the nut and move the arm slightly so the wipers are at the bottom of the cycle and then tighten the nut again.
You can adjust this working through the clock hole in the dash.

Thanks Brian...I thought it would be the rotor arm adjustment!..I have the wiper switch on dash OFF. And I'll try your suggestion!..thanks again.

There is a contact in the stalk that often needs adjustment to resolve this. Several threads out there…
