Steelies for track days
I'm keeping my original 15" Fuchs for street use on my stock narrow body Targa, set up with 195/ 60's or so; but am thinking inexpensive wheels and 205/45/16's for track days.
Anyone tried this? -C

I always wonder why people who track a street car go with different wheels and tires? Personally I run what I brung. I see it as developing a better feel for the street with practice on the track.
As to steel wheels.....heavy as hell. Not that cheap anymore....

I assume it gets expensive chewing through your street tires. Not to mention, street tires for Oregon in November might not be ideally suited to track work.

Once you start dragging a 2nd set of wheels and tires around you're headed down the slope. Next thing you know you'll have a trailer and be shopping for a Ford truck. Be careful.

Aaah yes, the slip 'n slide of tracking.... I go out on days my buddies are doing laps in their chump car CRX, so I can toss wheels, etc into their trailer.
As for running street tires, here in the NW daily driver skins are all season, and I prefer a little taller profile to smooth things out a little bit... I'll look around for used cookies or steelies. No rush on this as we're done racing until the spring. -C

I just picked up a set of 7" cookies with good rubber for $200!! Barely heavier than the 7" fuchs.
Steelies will most likely cost more, be much heavier, and only be 5.5".
