New H4's Headlights worked but stopped working :(
 

So I purchased new H4's today. If you read my earlier post I wasn't sure if I needed H1's or H4's but I was told to look at the cover and H4 was right there in front of my face!!! DUH!!! :D

So anyways, I pull the light out. Remove the old light, plug the new one in real quick to make sure it is working. Start the car up, turn the lights on and BANG the new light is working.

So then I decide to remove the bulb, clean the housing and inside part of the light cover. I notice a bunch of old electrical tape around the clips that plug into the bulb. I decide to remove that and put some new electrical tape. I put everything back together, plug the bulb in and it's not working anymore. :confused: I know the bulb is fine, I didn't drop it or anything. I even tried the other new bulb but that didn't work.

So do you think I should get some new connectors / clips and cut the old ones off and replace them? What would you do?

Fix it right. Get rid of the tape, Use crimp connectors or solder the connections and use heat shrink or this will come back to haunt you. Test the connector for continuity and a tight fit before you replace it.

Ok, this is how I found it. Does Pelican sell the correct connectors?

No lights.......
 

Check fuses #5/6 and #7/8 (counting from the front of the car). You may have blown one or more of the 8 amp fuses with the higher power headlight bulbs.

I am guessing I would purchase an H4 Connector similar to this? Any suggestions or just find any H4 connector because it would be better than what I am currently using (Electrical Tape) :( ???

Check your fuses or relays.

Napa also sells a nice bakelite headlamp connector with heavier gauge wires for something like $5. I've been using them for a while now with hot bulbs and no problems. Definitely solder them in.

You may want to look at your other thread as some upgrades have already been suggested. A relay kit is also a must.
Your current setup does not even have a proper H4 bulb connector, and all that tape makes me shiver... Bad on the PO, but now it is up to you to fix it right! ;)

Yes, I have been following both. I went by Napa today and picked up a couple H4 connectors. I am also going to purchase the relay's that Pelican have for sale.

Agree with all above. Fix the mickey mouse wiring and use high quality connectors. Be careful not to touch the bulbs as the oil from you skin will cause them to fail in short order.

This may be a dumb question but does it matter which wires plug into the light? I mean, the H4 connector has 3 black wires coming from it and I have a blue, green and brown wire going to it.

That means the connector has been replaced? use the picture you posted and wire the new connecter accordingly.

Yes it does matter. One wire is the negative, one wire is the positive for the low beam, and the last wire is the positive for the high beam. Unfortunately I do not have a wiring diagram with me to look at.

Thank you guys, that was it. I had a blown fuse. I have everything wired up with new H4 connectors and I couldn't figure out why the lights were not working. Anyways, it was the fuse! Thank you again!

Speaking from personal experience, if you don't have the headlight relays installed, install them first! They will protect your turn signal stalk from getting fried and in my case they even improved the brightness of the bulbs.

+1 on the relays. I installed them last week after replacing my turn signal stalk.
They do appear to shine brighter. Also nice to know the stalk won't melt down again!
