AAR Valve behaviour. Is this normal.
CIS folks,
On my 83 SC my AAR valve closes in about 4 minutes from receiving 12V. If you take a light and shine through the hole that is blocked by the bi-metall spring operated lever NO light is coming tru. Leading me to believe that it closes 100%. However when I blow air through it it passed (albeit slowly) on the other side. I know that the AAR is receiving metered air so in that respect it should not be qualified as false air but nevertheless it bypasses teh throttle valve and idle adjustment screw. SO is this normal behaviour? When I open it up I can see nothing apparently wrong with it. Kr Michel |
It's not an air tight shutter. It's just a simple metal plate that slides into place, there are no gaskets inside to make it leak proof. What you should have is greatly reduced air flow when the shutter is closed.

Thanks Scott. Indeed the air flow is restrcited but not stopped. So I guess we are talking normal behaviour.

How does your car drive? I recently replaced an AAR that wouldn't close all the way regularly. A new (used) one took care of a high idle issue.
If your car has a good cold start and idle, I think you are fine. However, the AAR I put into my car did not close all the way. Not certain if this helps or not. Larry |
Larry, I am hoping it will run just fine once installed :D
