Ideas to replace fader switch in SC?
 

I swear I seem to remember a thread a while back that talked about a switch that was a direct fit replacement for the fader switch in the center console between the A/C knobs. And I also seem to remember a thread that showed how to wire up the power antenna with an up/down switch. Now I can't seem to find the threads.

Here's what I want to accomplish. If I'm not listening to the sound of the flat 6, I'm listening to mp3s, so there is not much reason to have the antenna sticking up. But the way the head unit is currently wired, the antenna is up anytime it's on.

Since I disconnected the fader thumb switch in the center console, I was thinking about installing a switch in it's place to control the antenna.

Any pointers?

Any "rocker" switch, along with a 5A fuse, like the one used in selecting the right or left mirror(s) on the carrera should work.

And might be a close fit.

Some head units have a separate antenna connection, so that if youre not using the radio, than the antenna doesn't come up. Unfortunately, the JVC unit I bought didn't have that feature. Since I don't listen to the radio at alll...mp3's like you, I was annoyed with having the antenna up for no reason.

I wired a switch into the line that goes from the head unit to the antenna. And I hid it in my ashtray. You could do the same thing and find a switch that will fit in the fader switch spot.

Pelican also sells a cover plate that deleted the fader switch altogether.

Thanks, guys. My head unit does have a separate radio connection but for some reason it makes the antenna go up when it's on at all.

on your out wiring from your deck you should have a power ant and a blue turn on wire for amps etc ... you have to wire thru the ant wire and tie it in to the factory ant wire for up and down control ... with a two way switch you could make it for up and down straight from a hot wire and bypass the decks control of the ant ...

Bob, thanks but I don't think that was the one. I thought I read a post where someone listed a specific part that would be a drop-in fit to replace the fader with an on/off switch. And as I recall people were talking about different uses for it like the antenna control or even a kill switch. I've tried searching for "fader", "switch" and a few other terms but I can't seem to find now. Now that I've gone to all this trouble to find it, I'm sure it will magically be the top search result. :)
