Of course. We're in. I'm sure that people in SoCal will need a few days to recover from the RRIV hangover before focusing on turkey planning, but we ought to be able to get something together.

Hey Tamas,
I live in San Diego so I am ready to go anywhere in SoCal. Some locals and I usually do a run from SD to Julian, up through Borrego and back. There is a ton of fun twisties in that neck of the woods!!! Let me know if I can help.

Julian...Pies! Wonder if Palomar observatory would be open....
Joe Bob has a point about the roads in this area. Fun, challenging, but unforgiving. |

I agree with all of the above. We don't push it too hard. It is more for the scenery and the sound of a group of 911's running together. Plus, hammering on your car and attracting rock chips is never fun. We have fun and keep a good pace.

Just giving a bump as we're getting closer. This was a great weekend for SoCal drives (after some chilly mornings), so made me think about the Turkey run.

I am in for sure as always. Angeles crest area is always fun. Haven't been in a while. I will bust out past maps to find ideas.

We usually get home at a reasonable hour. Always enough time to cook and such.

In the past years, when the crest was open, we met at Starbucks at the freeway exit at ~8am. How about the Crest over to Wrightwood, down the backside toward Palmdale and then back toward home on Angeles Forest Hwy. Did this a short time ago on the ZX-14 rocketship and it was a great 3 hr ride.

I'm with Joe Bob/Mike on this one.
I enjoy a "spirited" drive as much as the next guy, but I know my limits. On too many of these "fun runs," I see people doing things that scare the you-know-what out of me. On one of these runs there were patches of black ice on the road, but some guys just went barreling ahead and would come up my tailpipe when I slowed down at a sharp corner. It got to the point that it just wasn't fun, so I finally pulled over and let everyone pass, and brought up the rear. On another run, a guy went off the road and hit a tree, if I recall correctly. I don't know if it's ego, testosterone, or just stupidity (or some combination of these), but what are supposed to be fun drives in beautiful scenery (e.g., Angeles Crest) often end up reckless displays of speed. I think my days of "fun runs" are over. I'll drive the scenic routes at my own pace and enjoy the scenery. Have fun, everyone. Be safe!

I'm with Scottb on this one ---- wait, that means I'm with Joe Bob/Mike also, right
?Speed/racing --- take it to the track guys. A leisurely holiday scenic drive is what I'm looking for. I participated in 2010 TDay run up Glendora Mountain Road. After about 10 miles up, I decided that many in the group were going too fast to be safe --- note that during that morning there were bunch of "suicide skateboarders" riding downhill!!! I turned around and took my time back to Pasadena area --- great drive. Quote:

Too crazy for me. Too many people with too much HP and testosterone.

I'm in. But don't we normally meet earlier and start the drive by 8am?
Glendora was good last year - I took a solo trip up to the Baldy ski lifts that was quite nice. Angeles is always good.
