Possible Electrical Diagram Project
Taking the Carrera electrical diagrams I was thinking if wire colors and a bit or rearrangement could be added they would be more helpful. I can put different systems on different layers and turn off other layers. E.g. if you are wanting to look at just exterior lights, you don't have to see all the dash, AC and engine wires. This is done in Visio. This allows moving wires and objects without having to make reconnections. Should I keep going or stop because of not enough added value? If keep going, comments? So far I just started on the front lights, relays, switches, rear lights/etc. need to be added for a full exterior lights only diagram. I'm thinking the whole drawing can be out put in .pdf, to allow easy zooming for others. Visio can export in many formats, not sure what is best at this point. Can probably output in B,D or E size drawing.
Thanks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1322333240.jpg |
Awesome project. Geeks like me would love it. Are you talking a single visio file with different sheets for various systems, exported in multiple pdfs, or mutiple visio's (source dwgs)? Any particular model years? Based on bentley or Porsche dwgs. I haven't had much experience with layers. Of course it is no small effort, but man would it be handy.

Hopefully errors will be pointed out but I will try and check as best I can. It is a lot of work - I'm using it to learn making custom line patterns for Visio. Yes, various systems can be put on layers. Still thinking on output formats and sizes. |
I would love to have access....my Carrera project will involve a complete rewiring and just being able to edit a diagram for an "as built" would be great. I was planning on doing it all in Visio as I have it, but a better tool would be wonderful if you know of one.

There might be targeted wiring programs. Most of the work is checking and getting the info put down. Visio seems pretty good so far.
I didn't realize how many switches/etc. the headlight current goes through, this is moving a relay solution to the top of my to-do list |

These are already available here somewhere for some of the cars, I have a set for my mid 70's 2.7.

Very cool; I also have a 3.2. Are these exportable to Excel spreadsheets?

not sure what you mean by exportable, they will end up being images (jpg, png, pdf) or Visio files. Images can be pasted into Excel. |
I now see that much of the exterior light details is on 970-66 of Bentley.
Looks like fog and backups need to be added. I might scrap what I have and try laying out differently. More like a top view. |
Hi "hcoles": great Visio job. I also work a lot with Visio. When do you think you will have the diagrams available. Visio files can be quite large. PDF's of 10X17 diagrams are not too bad. That's what I would suggest for distribution.

I would love to see a schematic as uncomplicated as this for a 74 2.7. I checked the search button without luck. Does anyone have the link?
|
I love playing around in Visio (actually get paid for it!)
Hcoles, send me your email address and I'll return mail a copy of the Visio file I put together for my 3.6 conversion (with MS3) - it might give you some ideas. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1322388749.jpg |

Nice, I need to up my game some. I've used Visio for a number of years but I don't think I'm really getting out of it all it can do. I now need to work before posting my next version. :p |
I'm looking at the 1988-1989 (1 of 3) 970-11 in Bentley.
Maybe it is just me, but some of the details are either in error or I can't follow e.g.: 1- see IG SW, power to Turn Signal - GRY is only energized on LOCK, what about ACC and RUN? This could be the European thing of leaving one side marker lights on. 2 - Red/White 75 to light switch from IG SW, where does that go? RED wire to Light Switch is always hot, why not fused? Do the X's there mean they are not used or don't exist? I probably just need to look at the diagram more and figure out the modes. |
duh, I need to read the Bentley book
X = from IG SW supplies when IG SW is in PARK, RUN, START, I guess this saves drawing the lines connecting the three right dots numbers: 15 = origin at IG SW supplies when RUN or START 30 = always hot, not fused Relays: 85 = ground side of relay coil 86 = power-in side of relay coil 87 = relay actuated contact, I guess this provides power to device 30 = supply but need to add a fuse in the case of adding a relay |
Here is another question.
I see some automotive relays that have diodes. The fog light relay is shown as having a diode in Bentley, so it seems it could be a good idea. If buying relays for the headlight application should I/we get ones with diodes? Here is one that has a diode. http://www.delcity.net/images/linedrawings/73986.pdf |
