Removing "Flag style" door mirror wiring harness
Well have finally decided to paint the car and need to get the "flag style" mirrors off of the car to do it right.
Got the mirror's themselves off but then realized that the wiring harness goes all the way inside the car "somewhere!" Has anyone ever done this and know where all of the wires go? I am not sure if I am going to keep them on the car but even so just am not a "cut the wires" and forge ahead person. Would rather find the harness and pull the plugs so that someone else could use them if needed. TIA, Joe A |
The harness and connections are under the door panel.

I think you have remove the pins from the plug to do it right. Most people just cut the plug off I think.

Mike,
I pulled the door panels off (need to re-do them in a different color) and tried to find the harness and they seem to go inside the car in the door jam. Do you think that there is a plug that I can disconnect to remove the mirror inside the door? thx, Joe |
That's what the Bentley says.....but cutting and reconnecting with m/f buttend plugs is easy.

I removed the the harness all the way to the fuse block...just trace it out, it is not that hard. Door panel off, through the door post and into the trunk...less wire = less weight, don't forget about the fuse. Once you remove the mirrors...who would need them? And if they do wouldn't they just wire them up themselves?

mirors
I just did mine. I pushed the connectors out to be able to pull the wires through the small hole. Be sure to note the wiring on the plug (the plugs have numbers on each position. The wiring diagram is in the Bentley.

Mirror Harness.

Pull the pins/document-color to pin#. |
Yes, the correct way is to pull the pins out of the connector and pull them through the mirror base. That will get you mirror off. If you want to remove the harness, you can pull it through the grommet at the front of the door. It connects inside the hood near where the hood shocks mount. If you open the door and look underneath the part of the front fender that extends back, you can see where the harness goes through the body. It is looped back 180 degrees.

Perfect guys!
Now that I know how to take the mirror off to get to the connector, will do that. I do not mind leaving the harness in the car/door, just want to get the mirror off of the door so that we can start sanding and painting! Thanks! |
