Electric mirrors......
Assuming they are like the ones on my SC, gently pry the glass from the base with a small screwdriver. Once loose, pull the heating connector off. Then you will see 3 6mm screws. Remove them and the motorized unit will come out. Separate the master plug and you are done. If you want to remove the mirror completely, you will have to push the pins out of the body half of the master plug. There is a special tool for this, but it can be done without it. There is a small plastic plug on the glass side of the base. Remove the plug and loosen the allen head bolt. The mirror base will be loose at this point. Pull the wires thru the base and you are done. As is said, "assemble in reverse order". Good luck!

Just pull it apart... Never imagined a mirror could be so over-engineered and it's all metal not plastic as i supposed.
It's (was?) the Porsche way. Last edited by prebordao; 10-09-2011 at 10:15 AM.. Reason: Typo |

Hint.
When you re-mount the mirror, take care to not over-torque the mounting screw.

Second, the mirrored glass has a metal backing......do you pry it apart between the glass and metal backing? Does the glass just pop off? Is it that easy? Just want to make sure.

This is how I removed the mirror from the housing. I moved the mirror by hand to the extreme sideways position. Then I could stick my finger into the gap between the glass and the housing. I pulled carefully and with some force the 3 prongs came slowly lose. They stayed intact. I disconnected the two heater wires from the back of the mirror glass. And that is how the mirror glass looks from the back side.
