HELP! Throttle Linkage

Hey eveyone,
Sorry for asking another 912 question here, but I'm really stuck. The throttle linkage should be basically the same for all 911s and 912s from '65-'87 anyway.

Has anyone ever replaced the forwardmost plastic guide tube in your tunnel? There is a thick silver cable where mine is supposed to go and it's causing my linkage to bend and bind.

Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

I meant to ask if anyone has had this problem and knows what the cable was and/or how to move it.

Porsche Crest Cable?

Having just spent many hours in the tunnel area (pulling fuel lines through the tunnel itself, and also through the tunnel WITHIN the tunnel I'm familiar with how they did it in '71, anyway.

I don't think the thick silver thing is a cable at all, I think it's a fuel line. I don't know what year your 912 is or whether it's fuel injected, but in my car there are (were) two thick silver fuel lines, one supply and one return, that run through there. Carbureted cars probably only have one. If it's interfering with your throttle cable, you can put it back into the retaining clip which is located on the port side of the forward oval access hole.

Query how it got knocked loose in the first place- have you been working on the steering rack? The lines exit the tunnel through a couple of rubber grommets and bend to the left where they are swaged to rubber hoses that go over the steering rack.

Basically the layout down there is, on the port side you have the throttle cable and clutch, and on the starboard side you have the wiring harness and battery cable- and in the middle, the shifter.

Hope this helps. I actually bought the plastic throttle cable guides and was going to replace them "while I'm in there" but took one look at the sharp edges and decided to save my skin for a later day.

hmmmm, i'm not sure if I'm more or les confused now. My 912 is a '67 and my problem seems to be that the silver fuel line (I guess that's what it must be) is in the retaining clip. I need to get my throttle guide into the retaining clip though. Is there any way to get the fuel line out of the retaining clip?

Does anyone know how to install that forwardmost guide tube with the silver fuel line in place? I'm really stumped and my car is not driveable until I can get it installed. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.
