Rim Waxing and other impulsive disorders

Does anybody else here have an impulsive desire to wax rims every other day or is it just me?

clinically known as Obsessive Rim Waxing Disorder, ORWD?

Wheel detailing was a prerequisite to purchasing these.

Time to hit those lug nuts with a Sharpie permanent marker. Concourse? No, but you'll be amazed at how good they'll look!

Every now and then I get some extra time and I'm always thinking of something has to be better than what I am using.
I use Blue magik metal Polish on my Fuchs,Mothers Mag polish was suggested to me,so I tried it, great stuff ! I started using Mothers, I still had some Blue Magik... one day I tried using both.
I used mothers to clean and Blue Magik to polish... WOW !
I use three rags(100% cotten towels) one to apply, one to remove, one to polish. It's the details that matter ! why do you think they call it detailing !

Paul, those look like Fiskes
you have my highest respect, beautiful wheels, but a ***** to keep clean ! Great work !

Don't stop at the rims!

There's plenty of chrome and polished surfaces on an early car to create compulsive/impulsive behavoir!

Emmanuel,

Nice, shiny wheels. I have to admit if I wax mine once or twice a year, I'm doing well. On the rare day off, I drive first, then clean if there's time.
Is that Glasurit metallic gold on your car?!?
I have that color on my 71 T and have been told it's pretty rare.
I just wanted to see if there's a matching car to "Goldie" (kids named it) amongst the Pelicanheads.

Thumbs up

one of the first things i did when i bought my car is wax the calipers...

wheels get waxed once a year.

TIP OF THE DAY: lee referenced using a sharpie marker to touch up black lugs. if you have C2 wheels with silver lugs that are worn looking get a rattle can of "chrome spraypaint" shoot the lugs and it matches the silver painted wheels perfectly. holds up very well also.

Steve,

It feels good to have a rare color, eh? Mine is Olive, althought I'm not certain if there are variations of that color that match yours.

I haven't heard of Glasurit metallic gold - can you post some pics of your car? I'm interested in seeing it. thanks.

I just detailed my 87 a few weeks ago and decided to try the
Vaseline treatment on my Fuchs. It worked very well. You wipe on the Vaseline then vigorously wipe/polish it off. It left no residue or dust attracting film like you might think. Felt very smooth and clean - nice appearance as well. I used it on unpolished Fuchs - the black and silver portions turned out nice.

Emmanuel,
I can post pics, but they are going to have to wait...Easter at G'parent's house, then 2.2 T motor is being replaced in favor of a 2.7L monster motor. Pics will be coming after ducktail and rear RS bumper are sprayed. The only downside to a rare color is that it is a b*%&h to match.

Steve, I've got a friend with a 71 Coupe in Metallic Gold. He bought it in 1972. Unfortunately, the paint is severely faded. He plans to respray it next year and it should look spectacular. -- Curt

Curt,
If he has the paint code 8888, it is the same as mine, and is a Glasurit which is NLA. If your friend wants to get the best original match available, he can contact me ( I have a small amount of original paint), and he can have his painter match it. As much as I am not a fan of gold cars, it is a coolcolor, and is growing on me daily--very '70's (Shagadelic)

I bought a "70 T just so I could shoot it that new Porsche colour Riviera Blue. I love the "Gumball" colours.

BTW, les paul guy, I'd like to see more pics of your car. Looks nice.

Kurt, your car is awesome. Clean and beautiful! I like how you retained the big headlight rings.

Emmanuel,
Here's a quick pic. The fully-polished Fuchs will soon be silver petal with black background, and an RS bumper and ducktail will be coming soon, as well.
