Question 1969 T vs S

Hi guys,

New to this forum and to Porsche world, I'd like to have your help.

Imagine a 911 T with official option
Leather interior
S instruments and Oil tank
Bumperettes F/R
Tinted glass
light metal wheel
koni shock absorbers
ignition lock

Fit a S engine into it...

What would be needed to have a full S from a construction point of view ???

Torsion bars ?
Brakes ?
what else ?

Tx in advance for your lights...

It's always going to be a 'T' with 'S' upgrades. The VIN# will give you away.....but, The Redbook by Paternie is a good guide. Also the Early 'S' Registry is a great help.

Alloy wheels and calipers, vented rotors along with the 170hp injected engine is what I see.

What's the difference between an S oil tank and a T oil tank?

From what I read, the S is bigger than the T

An "S" oil tank will have a hole cut out for the oil level sender, which sends the signal to the oil level "S" gauge. A "T" oil tank does not have the hole.

The S aluminum trim strips are fatter than T in front, sides, and rear.
If the T had the S gauge option, then it had an oil level sender in the tank
I understand many, but not all 69 S had Aluminum decklid($$$)
Bosch CD Ignition system in place of marelli coil & points
Two lamps under the front bonnet instead of one in the T
Completely different gearing in the 901 box
Torsion bars as you said
Front & rear sway bars
911S logos on glovebox 7 rear lid
The 1969 was unique in one year wiring harness & some other areas for all models

Torsion bar dimensions are the same.

External fender-mount oil cooler and '69 MY-only cooler lines and thermostat.

Aluminum deck lid not standard in an S.

Aluminum license plate panel

Alloy wheels are usually deep 6x15 Fuchs, usually with Michelin 185/70-15 XWX. However, a friend has an orig. 69' S Targa (even rarer than a coupe), but it has standard 6x15 Fuchs.

You can outfit your T to look like an S (insignia, etc.), but why? Those in the know .... will know it's just a nicely done poseur. Instead, enjoy it for the improvements you make to the driving experience.

I agree, just do the things you want to have and enjoy it. Early 911S bbs knows all about the stock items on the early cars.

Factory differences between a standard factory 69S and a standard factory 69T would be:

S
3.5" spacing front struts
Alloy front calipers, rotors
Sway bars
Fuchs wheels (.06 ending part #)
F+R bumper trim
Gauges
Steering wheel
Engine
Oil System and Front Cooler
Transmission
Badging

Possibles also include:
Al decklid and license panel
Sport seats

Not all 69 S's had these as standard.

Ok Sherwood... you've got my interest, "standard" fuchs?? What does that mean? Deep 6's, steelies, or 911E style comfort 14" fuchs were all correct for 1969, but "standard" 6 x 15's??? exactly what the heck are those?

Eric,
I think I jumped the gun. Friend is 2nd owner; purchased his '69 S Targa around '72. The original owner may have installed the .020" wheels before '72 or when I was looking.

901.361.012.06 (early); aka the deep dish version*
911.361.020.00 ("flat", late version)

Sherwood
