Yes I know this is off topic in a way and in a way it isn't. For anyone that does their own work on the P-cars, with all the associated lost bolts, scraped knuckles, and, yes, even a dropped engine, you can truly relate to and enjoy this book. Anyway, I happen to have an extra used copy of this book and it goes free to the first person who asks for it by sending me an e-mail with your name and snail mail address! It's only a paperback copy, so don't go thinking it's worth all that much. I'll even pay the postage. Just a very small thanks to everyone that has helped me on this board.

I love that book. Have read it twice. Brilliant. Got two papers out of it in undergrad philosophy class. The professor called the book pop culture, his longhair PhD student/TA considered it the best work of philosophy ever. Controversial but worth reading!!! ------------------ Dave 1972 911T (E motor) RSR replica project http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ |

Its a great book - typically I tend to skip the philosophical bits and read the maintenance bits when I re-read it these days...

Kurt, although this risks being whisked off to another list area by Wayne, I still think it's P-car related: you raise an interesting issue: Given the nature of our shared mechanical and vehicular obsessions, I'm sure many of us also keep one or more 2-wheeled exotics in garages along with our P-cars. For the motorcyclists on this list, what else is in your shed? I've got an '84 Laverda RGS 1000 and an '86 Cagiva 650ss (mid-80's Ducati Pantah from the days of Cagiva's ownership of Ducati).

Kurt, Very cool book. Read it many years ago during a tour of the country on my old Goldwing. The shed is now sporting a '69 H-D SS350 Sprint (almost running).

99 Yamaha R1, 148 HP to the rear wheels, 395 lbs. It makes my 930 feel like it is standing still. Goes thru rear tires a lot quicker too !! About 1500-2500 miles and I need a new rear tire

Did Pirsig's son (the one in the book) commit suicide?

No, I believe Pirsig's son Chris was killed during a robbery attempt in San Francisco in 1979 or 1980 when he was in his early '20s. Puts alot of the metaphysical stuff in a different perspective altogether.
