need distributor ID help

Hi All – I really need your help...

I am installing a new to me 2.7 into my 914-6. I am in the final throws – rotor/coli/plugs/wires/oil breather hose – just the odds and ends little stuff.

I went to buy a Pertronix, but the numbers are not jiving. My engine is number 6272986 - just a lowly US spec 1977 “s”. However, the distributor number is 231 184 007. The only reference on the pelican site for a number ending in 007 is for an earlier car. Pelican lists a different Pertronix for the year of my motor, and the possibly different year of the distributor.

I pulled the motor from a very well maintained strong running car that appeared to be bone stock. I do know it was gone through about 40k miles ago to address head studs. It was still running the stock CIS. The “patina” on the distributor exactly matches the rest of the parts on the motor.

Does anyone know if my distributor is stock for my motor?

Edit – I just realized this will also affect which rotor I order (I need a non-rev limiting type as I am using an MSD)

Thanks a million for any help – I am dead in the water until I figure this out.

Scott S
