Pirelli sidewall bubble...

When I pulled my wheels off today, I noticed a bubble on the inside sidewall of my right front tire. The base of the bubble is about 4cm and it is raised about 1cm. Is this real dangerous? I have LOTS of tread left on these tires, would hate to dump them. The tires are not new at all, but have little tread wear as this is the ex "garage queen" SC my best friend gave me. I'm pretty sure the tires have out-dated the Pirelli warranty.

Tire rubber gets hard with age, which is one reason why you would ditch those tires. The bubble is an even better reason. IMHO, tires with belt separations (bulges) are LANDFILL.

Not only should you not use this tire, I would dismount it/let the air out as soon as possible! I once had a tire with a sidewall bulge EXPLODE in the back of my suburban, breaking the rear glass & damaging the interior.

If that tire blows out just as you are heading into a left hand curve at high speed, in the instant before you leave the road are you going to be happy or unhappy that you saved a couple hundred $?

Me? That blister would be in the back of my mind every time I drove a little hard and I'd never be able to relax. The peace of mind would be worth the price of a couple of tires ...

A bubble is usualy caused by an impact, like hitting a chuck hole curb etc, what actualy happens is the tire kinda of folds the side wall, as if you took the bead and folded it over to touch the tread at the bend it creates a cut this allows the air to pass through it to the side wall rubber layer, in other words the side wall plys are cut, should be taken off as soon as possible check wheel to see if its bent, Kevin speedwheel
