sad to say, I'm thinking of selling my 83 guard red cabriolet for a coupe, possibly silver or black.
I've had this car (my only car) for about 1 1/2 year now and it's been very good to me, very reliable, with no major problems. now i am thinking about selling and getting a coupe, something toned down a bit, not too flashy, something more subtle than the striking guards red. anyone else have these feelings about so-called "toning" down the p-image when it comes to colors? i figure i can enjoy the cabriolet until the end of the summer and then get a coupe for the long cold winter grind. but it's still hard to part with a car that i've sweated over, maintained, and especially that huge project of installing a brand new top. |

no offense, but i think you're crazy! ![]() why would you want to get rid of a p-car that has been nothing but good to you so you can replace it with the same model (basically) that might possibly open up a new can of worms for you????????????? the ages of these cars, combined with the unknown abuses and the quality of maintenance from the previous owners would undoubtedly lead you on a long search for the right car, and possibly make you regretful for ever selling... you already have one that has been faithful! i have a guards red carrera, and yes, it is an attention-getter. but so is a silver 911, and a black 911, and a white 911! if you feel that self-conscious about the 'flashiness' of your car, maybe it would be better to go with something understated, like an m3 or similar. i just hate to see you get rid of a p-car that is as well-behaved as you have described just to change colors! ![]() think about this before you jump... just my 2 cents worth. ------------------ Adam Nitti ajnitti@mindspring.com www.adamnitti.com '85 911 Carrera Coupe PCA member, Peachstate region |

![]() Bill Douglas's Silver. . .this is the one that got you typing that CRAZY TALK; isn't it!? ![]() "toning" down the p-image when it comes to colors was very much on my mind at purchase time. Black has a bit of a "bad boy" thang. A few other colors which I think have the subtle precision machine look. . . The "Blue Bomber" sez:

1980 'The Weissach Edition 911'was offered in America as a limited edition model, 200 in Platinum Metalic Paint.
![]() My '81 was "Special Ordered." The 1980 Weissach Edition got me going. It took about 10 months before I found the color again. In 83 this color is name Pewter (Platinum) Metalic. One other steath feature of this color is that it really changes. . .note same car; same camera; different places: '81 Platinum Metalic SC COUPE [This message has been edited by island911 (edited 07-29-2001).] Last edited by island911; 01-27-2002 at 07:40 PM.. |

It must have something to do with being named "Emmanuel." :-) My biggest complaint about mine is that the guards red is simply too loud for me. The SC cars look great in blacks and metallics (copper, silver, gold, Minerva, etc) because of all of the black accents, and I know my next Porsche will be a black or silver coupe, and probably an 87-89. I don't hate the color, and I love the car, but when I come out to the lot on a sunny day and see that flashy red sports car, I know it's not me. I'm thinking I might make the change at the end of the driving season, in fact.

I think the red cab looks great. Then again I am biased. When I was young and dreaming of Porsches in the late '70s early '80s it was called "resale red". Guards Red was THE color everyone associated with Porsche and wanted.
That red burned into my psyche deep, to this day Porsche = Guards Red. --------------- ![]() |
