Best choice for tyre aspect ratio

I'll be spending my tax return on new tyres for my '76.

At the moment, it's running 205/60-15 all round on 6" (or 6.5"?) Fuchs wheels. Basically, I want to go to a nicer 215 section tyre for the rear, but I know that from past experience, even 215/60s can rub quite badly (smokingly) on my car's lowered flanks!

How out of place would 215/55-15 or even 215/50-15s look on my car? I like the ride height the way it is, but would like to enhance the rear end grip that's currently on offer.

Anyone had any experience with wider tyres on a standard "skinny" 911?

Paul,

Thanks very much for that. I'll have a play around now. Should solve any rubbing problems hopefully.
