Bolt in Headlamp bucket...

Hello - I am currently doing an install of Projector Headlamps in my 1984 Carrera. Since I am more an engine and brake man, electrics terrify me.

My next step will be to get the new wires to the new headlamp. If I undo the bolt in the middle of the headlamp bucket, can I then pull it out for easier access to the wiring?

I know this is a stupid question, so my flamesuit is on.

That bolt is a mount for some other stuff on the inside of the fender. You can remove the bolt, but there's a whole mess on the other side that'll still be in the way.

No, it isn't.

I do have a picture which will show you clearly what it is. I'm gonna find it.

Bolt nr. 2 is the one pointed out by the red arrow. What you are looking for is pointed out by the green arrow.

It holds a bracket (together with two other bolts) where the windscreenfluid reservoir is attached to.

The green arrow is the bottom of the bolt shown in the previous pic inside the headlight bucket. It's a support bolt and needs to be there.

I would consider drilling another hole and installing a rubber grommet.

Thanks, guys!

Gator - I am doing the writeup for the Dapper light upgrade. I'll keep you guys posted as well as providing the writeup when I am done.

Right now, my major problem is how to route the wires to the headlamp bucket. Kees photos will hopefully get me started on the drivers side.

Everything else appears to be "plug and play".

Can you not remove the existing headlight wire harness from the bucket and use that same path for the new wiring? Any changes to the existing harness could be made in the trunk, then the wires needed could be routed to the headlight bucket.

That is exactly what I plan to do. That way, there will be minimal intrusion, and all the original stuff could always be bolted back in.

Why do I think I am going to need to remove the resevoir on the drivers side, and maybe the oil cooler on the passenger side?

I was hoping for an easier solution.

CCM,

Have you tested the fit of the Dapper Classic Bi-Xenon to see if it will fit the Porsche bucket without cutting metal. That would be a huge score for who've been waiting to install HID projectors into our cars! Please post your findings.

Carefully pull the wire connectors off the plastic plug and they will pull back through the existing holes. Once you've ascertain the new fixture will fit you can slice the existing wires to the new ones OR make a larger hole. No reason you can't cut the backoff the bucket either if you need more room.
