value of a restored 76 Targa...
Hey guys!
Well it's been some time since I have been on here and now I am returning with interest in getting back into the older Porsches. I have ran across a 1976 911s fully restored targa.. here are some of the things done: 1. Engine resealed, new clutch, oil lines, tune up perfomed when engine was out. 2. Taken apart fully, blasted to the orginal metal and repainted 3. Interior - new (carpet, seats, etc) What do you guys think it's worth? Thanks! -Paul

I have seen prices quoted on Rennlist and on this list of about $6k for a restored 76. It is considered the least desirable year and Targa the least desirable model. I have fun driving mine, I like the styling of this mid year car, the mechanical simplicity and I enjoy driving with the top removed but I have no illusions about its value.

I think Targalid is low. He is right that the mid-years (74-77) are the least desireable years, and Targa is the least desireable model. However, they do have the classic narrow body, are light, easy to work on, and very reliable. The great thing about mid-years is that you can usually buy one much cheaper than comparable models. So a fully restored one may be nice to own if it has been well sorted. That said, I would think a price of $12K for a decent one, and up to $14 for a really nice one. Don't expect it to increase in value as fast as other more desireable models.

Does "well sorted" include engine case work? Is case work necessary on a street 2.7 if occasional spirited driving is the max the car will endure? |
