can't select reverse
 

after a bit of passionate drive today lots of twisty roads. i got home and can't select reverse i have a 76 911 targa standard set up 2.7 with a 5 speed manual 915\44.

any ideas

First thing, check the coupler under the access panel behind your front seats. Does the shifter have excess 'play'?

Second, when was the last trans fluid service? If you can't remember, prolly time for one. Inspect fluid and magnetic plug for metal.

what he said ... just adjusted one on a friend of mine's 86 today ...

no excess play select 1-5 all good but seams to be jamming and the stick wont go into reverse

No reverse......
 

Check the reverse lockout plate at the shifter. It may have been damaged somehow.

I would check the clutch cable you might need a small ajustment.A couple of mm can make a big difference.
