Muffler Conversion Question; Single In to Two in?

I have been looking at the prices of mufflers for a "sport" conversion. The "two in" (early year) mufflers are about $200 used. The "single in" Mufflers are almost given away.

Why not buy a cheap single in/single out muffler and attach "two inlet" flanges, fill the single out let, and add two "pea shooter" style outlets?

What would be the cons of doing this??

THANKS!!

The inside of the muffler is not that simple. The exhaust goes in and out through a perforated tube. The "can" holds baffling/sound deadening material.

Not that what you suggest cannot be done but just not that simple nor cheap.

It looks like it would be very cheap. I have a MIG welder. Can I simply shorten the baffles? I am not sure what they look like inside.

U have seen pictures of the inside of the "two in", but not the one in.

I found diagram/pictures of the two different mufflers;

The one-in I saw was one long perforated tube that went the length of the can, left to right of course, and back to a left outlet.

You'd have to do a lot of hacking of the can to figure out where/how to put the ins and outs. Then weld inside to the perforated tube. Close the can back up and weld that. I've not seen this done just how I imagine it would work knowing what little I know.

My muffler ids a stock 1in, 1out with a second out added straight from the baffled area. The difference is that both outs are on the same side and looks like a turbo outlet. Sounds great too. Many folks that add a second out like this do it to the other side and complain about resonation.

I don't think it's nearly as simple as it seems it would be...

Seems easy enough to try if the mufflers are that cheap. It's only time. I think the secret would be even pressure side to side... Almost like building two identical mufflers inside one can. I'm just guessing.

I have a two in, one out mufffler I will sell you for $100. Problem solved with no welding.

Depends on what your labor is worth.....

I had a muffler that someone had converted per the diagram above. It sounded like crap.

I guess it would be more labor. But it would be fun to do.

I have had some loud mufflers before. The resonance/drone was very aggravating. I will try to find a balance.

Pictures for those who asked. Muffler is stamped with ANSA QUALITAS SCHNALLDAMPER
