Should 911's be banned????

actually im just goofing around. i have been thinking about this. theres been quite a few people die in porsches. most notably james dean. but here this past year, one of the stars of jack ass died in his 07 911gt3. heres a few pics of the philadelphia flyers goualie, pelle lindbergh, who died in 1985, 911 turbo. of course he way way over the legal limit for drinking. i owned my 85 3.2 for about 8 years now, and im still a little scared of the handling, unlike my 90 944s2. but just thought i would post this. and i am just kidding about 911's being banned. i dont want any hate mail!!! tony

If memory serves, didn't the Triumph get banned once in the states? Can't recall if it was a car or motorcycle

Doesn't matter if your driving a 911, Yugo, motorcycle or a skateboard. If you push the vehicle, or the skill level of the operator of said vehicle beyond the abilities of either one, it's a recipe for disaster. Add drugs or alcohol to the mix and it just multiplies the chances for disaster.

James Dean died in a mid engine car. Should we ban those too?

For the star of jackass and others, speed was more of a factor than the engine position. Maybe we should ban anything with more than 150hp? 150 is plenty to get you to the speed limit.

lol

If thats the case, then they should ban all motorcycles and private airplanes. And angry wives with golf clubs..

Yes, all 911s should be banned because you managed to name three people who died over a 65 year period; one not driving a 911.

Happy?

If anything should be banned around here, it should be those butt heads in biggo truck who think their trucks are the safest things on the road.

It's about skill level and maturity. Give a kid a chainsaw and he will hurt himself too. You drive high performance cars and don't respect them, you gonna get hurt. This is why all the new performance cars are full of idiot proof electronics. God forbid you accutally take the time to learn to drive a performance car these days. Now we can mash the pedal and let the ESP, traction control, anti lock brakes, sort out the upcoming turn. And if I don't make the turn, I have 12 airbags and on star to call for help.
This is why I sold my modern sports cars and returned to a air cooled 911. It's about me and my personal responsibility not to put the car in the bushes.

okay- you are goofing around, but scared of the handling of your 911?
Go get some driver's ed with a POC or PCA instructor, in a controlled event. Really get to learn your car and what it does. Nothing like getting the confidence in what your car is about , its limits, and the joy of dancing there (in the right locations of course) ;-)

Can't argue with good advice, but the average Joe should be able to recognize the fact that a 911 can be a TON of fun/enjoyment even when driven 'legally', without ever hitting a track. They are great drivers, don't necessarily need to be 'racers' and/or driven to extreme on the street.....or off a cliff...
