Waaaay Overdue Introduction

Hello, I've been visiting this site for years, and am just now getting around to introducing myself.. I've driven Porsches since I was 16 starting with a humble, but quite fun 87 944. I've drive a few different 911s, 3.2, 964, 993, as well as owning a 996. I also owned a 944S that was just a blast.

I currently own an 84 Carrera that I absolutely love. It might not be as fast as a newer one, but I love this era of Porsche. And all of you know that feeling so I don't even have to bother explaining it. I'm lucky to have a wife that loves them as well!

My wife and I are located in PA, and flew down to Momentum Porsche in Texas and then drove it all the way home. The alternator died in Virginia, but we nursed it home and had an absolute blast doing it. So here are some random pics of it.

I still have my Fiat. It was my parents, and was taught to drive stick with it. I LOVE this car.

I just got my car back from getting a new ignition switch. So far I've had that, new torsion bars, alternator, dme relay, and just a few odds and ends, but overall for a car almost 30 years old it's in great shape.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is whoever painted it last. It will need some attention very soon, I've got clear starting to flake and stuff like that popping up.

I definitely look forward to some great conversation on this board!!

Welcome grant' - glad you could join - nice wheels!
we had a similar adventure, picked the car up in Huntsville, AL, and had to fix the fan belt outside of Atlanta the next day, but the rest was a blast. It was a couple of years ago, but it hasn't failed us yet.

Welcome,

I too started out in Porsches when I was 17, with an 88 924s (944 motor in a 924 body). I now drive a 78SC Targa and love every minute of it. You have a beautiful looking car treat it well.

Regards
Dave

Welcome Grant!

I'm a newbie here as well...I recently obtained a beautiful '87 Targa, my first P-car.

Great photos...is that your log cabin? I always envision everyone from PA living in a log cabin...:D

+1

Since I first saw the combination years ago, I always like the gold BBS-style wheels on a dark red car.

Good luck with it & have fun!

There's lots of good driving roads in PA.

Welcome. I recently bought a 1987 Carrera in Atlanta and drove it back to central Ohio with my wife. I think it's a great way to get to know your new car, and a lot of fun.

Wow! Cool car, Cool Log Cabin, and what appears to be a mid-century home.

Welcome from a fellow Pennsylvanian(and 3.2 driver). In which part of the state do you reside?

Welcome to the non-lurker side of Pelican!

Great looking color on your 911.

I too had owned a 124 Spider back in the day. Fun little car. SmileWavy

Welcome, glad to have you on the board. I love the color of the car - do you know what it's called (if it's the original color) ?

1976 TN Porsche 12-14-2011 03:55 PM

Good looking cars.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone, and thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to see we have fans of log cabins here, I absolutely love them, I'll have to dig some up from last winter, I love a cabin in the winter!

Scooter, I agree, the 124 Spider is so much fun to drive, not fast, but I just love driving it. For a Fiat, it's very reliable, it's never broken down, or let me sit anywhere. Knock on wood....:D

I really don't know why it took me so long to post, but I'm glad I'm finally here, and thanks again for the welcome! I'm located in Berks County outside a really small town called Birdsboro.

Great color combo with the wheels!

grant 911 12-15-2011 02:21 PM

Thank you. I've really been considering using them for winter and then getting gold Fuchs for the summer. We'll see. I've been kicking around the Carrera sidescript in gold as well. So many choices!!:p

dshepp806 12-15-2011 03:08 PM

Being a wine advocate (and relative expert?), I have to say that your color is the best available!!!! I've an '89 Silver Anniv. Edition,..so, I'm bound to keep her the same Silver metallic that came from the factory (she's soon to go to bare metal with windows out repaint)...but BOY would I love a car that color on my car,...may have to buy another just to accomodate the wine correlation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An absolute beaut!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy her and a big, warm welcome here!

BEST to you and your's,

Doyle

Awesome color, see so many reds, silvers, etc. I guess I should not complain since I've owned 2 911s...both Guards Red. That Fiat is very cool, I came VERY close to buying one in ''77 for my first car at college but ended up with a Celica which ended up being a great car. Still wish I'd gotten the 124 Spider. Ended up with a GF in college who had one...at least I did not have to fix it! Gorgeous winter pics as well.

grant 911 12-16-2011 03:01 PM

Well thank you! I absolutely love the color as well. When I first showed my wife the ad, she told me I had to get it!! It's great having a wife that is an enthusiast as well. Thanks again for the kind words!!
