E-brake rebuild
Anyone done this...time, $ patience?
I currently have to pull the lever up all of the way to lock the shoes, so time for a rebuild. I can get the shoes (all 4) for under $70 new, but am not sure what else I need.....any help as to how to do it without killing myself in the end?

Josh, before you start throwing money out the door, try adjusting the brake shoes first. That might be all you need.

I'm with Kurt. They need adjusted.
If they are worn out. Can you give my lessons on "handbrake" turns........ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I take that back. Unless you have a wife that drives with the handbrake on........ ![]() ![]() ![]()

You mean handbrake turns wear out the shoes? Joking....I love powerslides, but the best part is, with all out power, you don't need the brake to get one going!
I think there's a disengage issue so I'll have to open it up anyway to check the springs....is there any easy method of doing this?

remove rear caliper bolts. remove C clips on brake lines where they attach to swing arms, and push line thru and sit caliper on top of swing arm. (don't open brake lines). remove rotor and there you are. an impact hammer is needed sometimes to get the 2 screws loose that hold the rotor to the hub.

I've given some thought to building something to keep the button in. That should work, shouldn't it ?
Somekind of gadget for auto-crosses. All the events in Montana have a 360 degree hairpin. Seems a handbrake turn would be the fastest way around. I will be in F-Prepared so I think I can modify it. On a serious note. Follow John's instructions if you need to go inside. If you've let them get TOO loose the swing arms may have come off the pin/stud they sit in/on. This keeps the cable tensioned. But like John said. If you haven't had them off before, you'll have a b**** of a time getting the drums off. I used one of those impact screwdrivers. WAAAAY in bottom of the tool chest. First time I ever used it. Good Luck
