Bumperettes gone!

Still new to this...removed bumperettes today and put new Momo wheel as well as Rennline floorboards.

I like the look- maybe some bumperplugs?- Not sure what the goal is as of yet- just getting my feet wet in some basic mods.

They make some plastic hole covers in various sizes you can buy at Lowe's or Home Depot. You could paint them same color or close and they holes will just fade away. Very cheap fix. Better check if you need license plate lights. If so you could get some LED's to "fix" that.

Looks good. Can't figure out why I haven't done that yet. Maybe this winter....

I like it. Did you have to pull the bumper to get at them?

+1 on the license plate lights though.

Hi Rich,

Are your old bumperettes in good shape - are you keeping them? I guess I am the only guy in pelican world that likes the way look. I am also the freak that loves the SC bumpers - I guess I just love her the way Dr. Porsche made her Anyway, if the metal guts are still intact and rubber is not torn - I would be interested - please feel free to PM me.

Thanks - Ray

I had my local body shop weld the holes shut on a donor bumper and paint to match. Cleaner than bumper plugs, but admittedly more expensive. Since this picture was taken I've added a license plate frame that has a light incorporated at the top.

I betting the US DOT had much more in the design of the bumperettes then Dr. Porsche ever came up with.

They weigh a TON! ...times 2! Designed to meet insurance mandated and DOT enforced 5mph "no damage" crash test and raise the bumper height (so did raising the suspension over the Euro spec).

Essentially useless lumps in my opinion and I'm sure the factory wasn't pleased with having to add them.

- Craig_D

P.S. I used the plastic plugs to fill the holes and LED license plate bolts add some illumination on the tag.

Butt surgery

I started to do the same thing as ofishbein, but finally decided to repalce the rear bumper with an RS style fiberglass piece. Doing so got rid of all the rubber bits and pieces there. I bought a set of license plate lights at Pep Boys for about $10 for the pair. They were chrome over plastic, but I sanded them down and painted the bodies. Here is the final look.

Well, more like 7.5 pounds each according to my scale.
