911 SC Centre Vent Console... What's Missing?
I purchased a new centre vent console for my 1982 911 SC but it doesn't seem to fit. The bottom clips don't actually clip into anything, I think there must be some trim or something missing but I can't find it in the parts catalog. The previous vent was glued in. Attached is a photo of the installed vent and below that what i think it should maybe look like. Thanks in advance for your help

Looks like a 964 dash, so it has to be this:

As proffighter states, it appears that you have the later dash. Perhaps you could glue, shim, and seal your replacement vent in place, then touch up the surround with some satin black paint.

What does your defroster look like next to the windshield? Is it 2 separate vents or one that goes all the way across? Earlier dashes have 2 vents, later style have the single style.
The pic of the vent looks like a later style. The vent can be bought new from our host for $79.50 Pelican Parts - Product Information: 964-572-051-00-01C-OEM |
what do the side vents look like? it does appear to be a > 86' dash...

Thanks for you help so far guys! So I measured the extremities of the vent and they are 187mm x 65mm, does anyone know if this is the size of the 964 vent? Also, there are 2 defroster vents for the windshield. Here is a photo of the full dash if that helps

Sorry, I don't have the newer style dash to measure the vent, so I can't help you out on that one. I tried to retrofit a newer style dash to my 79 SC, but the defroster vent was going to require major changes to work, so I gave up on it and deleted the center vent. If you do have 2 defroster vent openings instead of one long one, I'd say somebody grafted the newer style vent to an older dash.
If somebody could measure theirs to confirm that the opening is the same as a newer dash, I know from experience that you can plug the newer vent into the older center vent plumbing. |
