Just bought a cheap set of 40 IDA Webers...are these the real deal?
Hi everyone,
I just bought this pair of Webers today...for what I considered to be a dirt cheap price. The ad said it was for 911s, and that it was gonna be used for a "77 RS" motor. I don't know too much about these, nor do I know much about Webers in general, but can anyone tell me if these are the real deal, as in are these the ones that will fit on my engine? Thanks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Jeff;
Yes those seem to be the weber carbs most often used on 911 motors. With the proper venturis and jetting they should be good up to motors of about 3 liters. I'd do some searches on this BBS on Webers to get some background on the subject.

they're a good deal if you can get all the main jets out, and if the bottom of the float bowl isn't all crusted up. never buy webers without at least looking in the float bowl. worn throttle shafts/bores can be repaired.

Well, Jeff ... you already had the answer to your question! It's in BA's book that you haven't bother to finish reading ... all that boring stuff about engines, etc.!

I am sending an order to P.P. to get the rebuild kits for these same carbs for my 69'T, I have B.A.'s book, he shows in pics about mods to help with boiling and vapor lock, but not in print. At least I did not find anything. Where is a good place to learn about rebuilding these?

A book we carry "Original Weber Tech Manual" by Bob Tomlinson has been the best guide we've seen on the subject.
It covers the two barrel IDAs in detail, three barrel webers are identical, save for the extra barrel. And it covers the 40IDA 3C in an exploded view also. Original Weber Tech Manual BK-WEBER-CB $16.95

Haynes also has a Techbook called "Weber Caburetor Manual". It sounds very similar to the book John mentioned. You can check it out at any Pep Boys. It's more in depth than Waynes section in "101 Projects" on rebuilding the carbs although Wayne suggest leaving the butterflies in the throttle body if they aren't in need of service which is a good idea. At the price of either book you should get them both. As I don't think you can do too much research.

Thanks for the confirmation, guys. Next up I'll have to do a search on how to rebuild these buggers, as I have no idea whatsoever on how carbs work and how to rebuild it. Plus, I have no idea what else I need in order for these to work in my car. Look for a future post..
John W. - I'm not too sure if the float bowl is crusted up, but guess I'll see when I open them up. If they aren't (or even if they are), I figured $350 for them was a steal. Or was I wrong? Like I mentioned above, I have no clue about these when I went to look at it. Next time I'll know. Thanks. Warren - A HA! You're absolutely right (DUH), Warren! They are in the section of B.A.'s book that I haven't bothered to finish reading! It's interesting, however, that the pictures of the Webers are in the section of the SCs. Kinda confused me. Bobby - Thanks for reminding me! I'll go check out the carb rebuild section in the 101 projects book.

Jeff? Good luck, these carbs may end up to be very rebuildable. At the worst, you've paid 350 for a pair of really cool paperweights. In the long run of life? Not all that important. Hang in there. Man, could I, and all of us if we'd admit it, tell tales of worse money spent...

Wayne,
Thanks, but I already have the 101 projects book. I ordered it from Pelican before it came out, and I've got one with your autograph dated 9-25-01. I never thought about carbs, so I never really read through the fuel system projects, just skimmed through it. As soon as I get my parts washer working it'll probably be time to rebuild it. Does Pelican carry any parts for converting a CIS car to carbs? These are the only two things I have, nothing more.
