Crane Hi6 ignition

I learned something today from my "Porsche Coach" as I like to call him now.

I upgraded my 78 930 ignition to a Crane Hi6N (nascar version). I got everything in okay, but was having some timing issues. It was telling me I was 52* advanced. Something is wrong I say. I thought my Mac timing light had gone south, but wanted to explore all options first.

Long story short it turned out the shielded wire that gets split into two wires to connect to the ignition box were reversed. I switched the wires, corrected some earlier tampering with the distributor and viola it ran like a scolded cat!

So in summary if you have split the shielded wire into two wires in an upgrade similar to this and the car that previously ran fine is now running poorly with loss of power and popping in the exhaust pipe you may have signal wires crossed which is easily remedied by reversing the position of the signal wires.
