Question sloppy pedal (or maybe it's my foot)

Fellow listers,

I noticed when driving the '71 911T that the go pedal moves as much sideways as it does up and down. I'm assuming that the pedal is worn out and needs to be replaced. The problem is that when I pulled the carpet up it appears that there are two rusty nubs where there should be two 10 mm bolts. Before I go destroying the pedal completely and having to drill and re-tap the holes I thought I'd ask if my thinking is correct that the pedal needs to be replaced. Or, maybe there is something else that may be causing it to be so sloppy that I'm unaware of.

TIA for any help or comments.

Roy

Maybe you won't have to drill and tap the holes. After soaking the bolt heads with some kind of thread penetrating oil, you might get a small vice-grip on the bolt. Also, you would be surprised how much a bolt *grows* with rust. Underneath all that is probably a pretty good 10mm hex shape.

Got one of those cheap portable sand blasters? I put a small funnel over the area with the big end down. I put the blaster nozzle in the top and blast away. No mess. On areas like the pedal, I use a short, fat thick rubber hose long enough to extend up where I can get the funnel over the hose. It's kind of a blind process, but wiggle the nozzle around a bit, stop and take a look at your aim. With a few towels around the area, you shouldn't get any sand beyond where you can vacuum it up. I'd take the seat(s) out.
