I tried to get some swepco from pelican, They cant send it by air! I live in Michigan so I called Swepco to try to find a local distributer, no luck. Now, I am putting my car back together tonight as otherwise I won't have time for another week. I am going to go with Mobil 1 (unless anyone has a better option) but I was wondering what weight? It's a '77 930 tranny. I have to leave here in an hour to pick up my parts at the dealership. thanks

I prefer Valvoline 75w-90 to flush out the old stuff. Use it for a week and wait for the Swepco. The change it out w/the Swepco when it arrives.

First off thank you for your quick response. It looks to me like you guys either go with 75/90 or 80/90 what are the drawbacks/advatages between the two however small?

90wt is the ideal, Swepco makes it; real hard to find; 80-90 Swepco is "readily" available and what most people use, myself included; PepBoys etc. stock 75-90; which is why it is recommended for flushing; it will work and is available; just not ideal.

I've been told that synthetics don't work well with the Porsche balk-ring type syncromesh. They work best with Borg-Warner type syncros found in the G-50 gear boxes.
Any GL-5 rated gear oil will protect the ring/pinion. I'm using Valvoline while I'm working on leaks. It's ok. But its not SWEPCO. Not even close. Good Luck ![]() ------------------ Cary Kutter 77 Euro Carrera w/3.2 PCA Region - Big Sky [This message has been edited by cary (edited 07-25-2001).] |
