Transmission serial number?
Call me stupid but, try as I might, I cannot find a serial number on my tranny. Where exactly is it supposed to be loacated at? All the books and manuals I have seem to gloss over that fact. The car is a 1972 911T 2.4 with 5-speed transmission. I am guessing it is a 915/02 but I should be able to verify that, especially since there might be some other issues with the car. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Ole,
Both 'Type Number' and 'Serial Number' should be on the botton rib ... very close to the drain plug. Unfortunately, that is the lowest point under the drivetrain, so any 'excursions' over curbs, rocks, etc. may have ground it off! It may take a bit of cleaning with paper towels and brake spray cleaner/degreaser ... before the lightly stamped numbers are even partially visible! |
OK, Warren, thanks!
I checked around that area with a magnifying glass and there is absolutely no trace of any serial numbers. I guess you are right, it has been scraped over one too many times. I was trying to see where the tranny came from because, based on VIN numbers, the engine is not the original one in the car. I guess I may never know. |
