Post Proper gasket install?

Well, I'm going to button up the tranny tonight and was wondering how you guys "pretreat" the paper gasket for the inspection cover. Do you use any silicone or just wet the paper with a little gear oil first? Thanks

Loctite 518 is the current preferred 'treatment' ... it is the good enough for the FAA as the replacement for Loctite 574 for use on piston aircraft engines!

just a question...why was your tranny apart...

I am contemplating cracking mine open to replace some howling bearing...but I have heard that only pros should mess with the tranny...and I have heard DIY can handle it...

Just wondering if you were a successful DIY
