older momo wheel help please!

Hi

I've rounded up an older momo wheel, adapter and horn button recently and have found that I am missing a part or two.

I have the hub and wheel and screws, but there seems to be a piece missing from either the horn button or hub adapter, as there is nothing to hold the button onto the wheel.

If any of you out here have one of these type of wheels on your early 911, I'd appreciate your input.

Here is what I have:

On mine, it just pops, slides into the opening. Maybe you have the wrong horn button. Should just snap right in there. That's all I got. Sorry.

You're missing a piece that should have come with the hub adapter that sits between the wheel and the hub that the horn button fits in. I can take a picture of it later tonight, and post it here. But you're definitely missing it. Check through the parts that came with the adapter; it should be there with some various types of wiring connectors, the allen head bolts that bolt the wheel to the adapter, etc. -Doug

Thanks!

I'd love to see a picture. What you see is all of what I have , plus the allen head screws to mount the wheel to the hub.

reg- nice wheel -

Mine was like the first reply - the horn just snapped into the opening - no other adapter.

When you put it in, don't forget to take the turn signal auto off flange off the back of the old wheel and attatch it to the new one. Without it, you will have to manually turn off the signal and your horn won't work. (ask me how I know)

Good luck

FWIW--I have played mix and match with Momo, Sportline, and
Nardi wheels over a few years, and it seems to me that you are indeed missing a part. There are three ways to retain the horn button that I have come across.
[1] If the hole in the center of the wheel is the right size, the horn button assy. will just click in as has been mentioned.

[2]If the hole is too big, you will need a piece[mine was thin brass]--which installs between the wheel and the hub which has a flange which comes up thru the hole and the horn button clips into this. It also acts as the earth return for horn operation.

[3] this is the one I have on my 911 at the moment- it is a machined cap which fits over the horn button assy and
attaches the whole thing to the hub with longer allen head screws. I wish I had some pics to show as my description probably wont make sense to you.

Incidentally ,the Nardi I have has the mount screws 1/2 a space
out compared to the Momo and I machined a spacer for my Audi
I have seen a hub with both sets of screw holes ,but it was
cast alloy rather than the pressed tin Momo
[Does this make any sense to anyone?]

Thumbs up

Reg: A couple of pics attached. You need one of these little guys. If you don't.... not sure where you get them???? Possible one could be fabricated. Perhaps Pelican Parts can help you obtain one. They shouldn't cost very much. Good luck. -Doug

Thanks Doug.

My horn button is the same as yours, only its the Porsche model that is NLA at Pelican. (yes Wayne, I did look! )

My hub adapter says c 230 on it and looks the same as the one on waynes site, only the top looks slightly different.

Bob and SC, thank you too. My horn button is not too big, in fact its outer edges just come up nicely to the screwholes on the face of the wheel.

I guess I will have to buy a new hub adapter and try to find a racer who does not need or want a button on his wheel.

Anybody know of a source for the Porsche horn buttons? The way I understand it, it's only the US where they are NLA - leading me to believe it's another trademark infringement issue. -- Curt

Good question Curt. The only one's I've seen in the US lately have always been on Ebay. Maybe there would be a source out of the country?!?! Unfortunately, I'll bet they crank up the tariff on these guys just like what's happening on Ebay. -Doug
