Help!! I have been driving my 911 almost without interruption for a year, and I now discovered that I can't drive anything else any more. Here's the problem:
1. I got used to the 901 tranny, and whereas it's configuration didn't make sense to me in the beginning, all other gearboxes now feel a bit illogical. I miss and skip and hunt for gears all the time when I'm in a hurry, and not in my 911. 2. I got so used to pulling away in 2nd, that I stall other cars all the time. 3. When not in a hurry, I skip gears while pulling away in traffic. I will go from 1st to 3rd to 5th. Can't help it, enough torque. Try it in a VW Polo and see what happens. 4. I take corners too fast in other cars. 5. I brake too late in other cars. 6. I red-line other cars just to get them moving. 7. I get frustrated when trying to overtake while driving something else. Or trying to accellerate up a hill doing 2000rpm in 5th, when not driving the 911, realizing it is futile. 8. I can't hear the exhaust, can't feel the road, can't smell the engine. I feel seperated from the car, and don't enjoy the ride in other cars. Seriously, does anybody else experience problems driving other cars after getting used to a 911? |

Yeah, I go through the same experience when I drive my 2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4. Quiet, cold a/c, power everything - but no substitute for the smell of hot oil and the sound of that flat-6 behind you.

You think other CARS are bad, tryo getting behind the wheel of a Navigator after the Pcar. It's kind of like a schoolbus, with more leather and less feel for the road.
Everything's relative though -- The porsche has nothing on a Ducati.

Too big to fail

Try swapping between a '77 911 with a 3.6l and a 1960 VW bus witha 1600 single port!

This is a very common symptom of the Porsche sickness. Do not worry. You are not alone. Prior to purchasing my first 911 around 1983 I was VERY picky about what I drove. After owning the 911, all other vehicles became mere appliances. My last 2 trucks I bought sight unseen!! Called my salesman on the phone, told him, in general, what I wanted and when I needed it. Showed up, signed the papers, walked out - yeah, that looks OK, I guess - and drove off. It does simplify car buying. -- Curt

Sounds kinda silly. I can drive anything. I like to drive my 911, but I can drive my other vehicles the same as always. I would agree with the performance, I think the problem lies more with how you drive rather than what you drive.

Seriously, try a Navigator, or an Expedition. I think the Navigator actually is more softly sprung in a nod to "luxury." It's the most detached, numb, soulless driving experience I've ever had. I'd rather drive my old 1988 Cutlass Sierra.
