Missing pictures?

I was looking through some old threads and got broken image icons. Here's a thread with broken images. Is this repairable or are these images lost forever?

Skip, this is a headache with the internet. Most pictures on the internet are hosted somewhere other than on the forum's servers, meaning the picture wasn't uploaded to Pelican but simply referenced to in the post to another site.
What happens is the poster eventually switches sites, and the site where the picture was is no more.
It's happened to me twice over the years. Once when Yahoo GeoCities went under, and now that Apple is killing Mobile Me. All my old posts with links to pictures on those sites will soon get the red X where the pic used to be. Neither Yahoo or Apple bother to leave the old sites up, so the pics are dead.
It's a real annoyance.

Hot links are less secure than uploads......

Try Photobucket or Image Shack for hosting...I've had photos on both sites for years, and they are free.

Thanks for the 'sponses. It hadn't occurred to me that the images were off-site. I should have thought of that...
