Hate to beat this dead horse. I have an 88' Carrerra with the front cooler and fan. I drive around Orange County traffic in 90-95 degree temps. I have never heard my front fan engage, nor have I felt the front cooler to be warm. My oil temps sometimes get up to the second white line on my gauge. Could I have something wrong with my external thermostat. Help.

The thermostat that sends oil to the front cooler should open shortly after your car hits operating temp, which is the first white line on your guage (the line at about 8 oclock). The lines and cooler should get too hot to touch.
The thermoswitch that starts the fan is in the front cooler, so if your thermostat isn't sending oil to the cooler, it will never get hot enough to start the fan. Two most likely causes are the thermostat is not working, or that the hard oil lines running from the thermostat to the cooler could be pinched closed by an unknowing tireshop clown with a floor jack (don't ask me how I know this.....) Check your lines, if they are OK, you can replace the guts to your thermostat. Pelican sells them. Hope this helps, Tom ------------------ 82 911SC Coupe |
