Bear Mountain/Seven lakes Christmas run

I know its last minute but I will be returning home form college next Wednesday and as of right now it has not snowed (knock on wood). This means that no salt has touched the road yet and thus I am comfortable driving my 911 until such a time. My Netrix bushings will still be in transit next week so I wont have any projects to do on the car, and finals will just about have done me in. As a result of all this, I will be itching for some good old driving.

I plan on heading up to the 7 lakes/Bear mountain drive on either Thursday the 22nd, or Friday the 23rd, or both days if I'm feeling ambitious. I do realize that these are week days and thus many of you may have work. Does either day work better for people?

Here is the plan.

I will head to Playland in Rye NY around 930AM. Meet up with who ever shows. I plan to Leave there 9:45 or 10am. From there I will head to Bear Mountain for the 7 lakes run. Drive around there for a while then head home in time for lunch.

I would like to put a second meeting place in closer to Bear Mountain, any suggestions?

Does any one know these roads well or have a map they can post, I only know generally where I'm heading?

Its going to be a short run, but a fun one for every one who doesn't store there cars in the winter, if the weather holds out.

Regards
Dave

Thanks, I wish both my cars weren't in pieces right now. I have a 73 Dodge Charger that I'm in the middle of swapping engines.
I get back from UMD late on the 21st and I plan on starting my timing belt job right away, but those plans could change. I also need to get my new tires mounted. The 14 year old ones definitely wont cut it.

there are a couple of rest areas along the palisades parkway, one just south of exit 5 (farther south than your route, but easy to access from northbound or southbound lanes) and another one, probably too far between exits 16 and 17.

I have to work that day so will have to pass; enjoy the drive.
Just so you know, if you're concerned about salt, you may want to check if Bear Mountain got snow last Thursday - I had to drive from Northern Westchester to Scranton PA, and there was definitely snow, salt, and plowing going on along the I-84 corridor, so I would guess that Bear Mountain got snow as well. Just so you know.

Enjoy the driving, hope to join a drive with you again in the spring.

FYI- i live 5 minutes from bear mountain and we got snow last week and they salted the roads. they are getting better and we are supposed to get rain on thursday which will help to clear them. hopefully it rains and is warm enough so that they don't salt. i'll post again, if you'd like, to give you the status.

bordin,
Please replace those tires before you do anything spirited! They are way overdue no matter how good the LOOK.

Assuming the weather holds I think friday is going to be the day. My brother does not have school and has be itching to go on a run with me. Plan still holds, ill head to playland in the morning then head up to bear MT/seven lakes run.

I was thinking we could also have a second meeting place at the palisades mall, but with it being so close to the holidays I would think the whole place would be jam packed. How do people feel about this.

Regards
Dave

Went for a quick drive this morning.. no traces of snow or salt though it was freezingly cold.

Coming from north on Palisades pkwy take exit 15 Gate Hill rd exit.
- proceed left on Gate Hill rd, turn right at the first stop sign
- turn right into seven lakes dr at the first circle
- go straight through next 2 circles following seven lakes dr
- cross over to exit 19 on Palisades pkwy for Perkins Memorial
- about a mile sharp left turn into Perkins Memorial and follow that road up top

Enjoy!

So after will's report every thing sounds like its good to go. Friday is the day, I will be at Rye Playland around 915ish, then hit the road at about 945 from there heading to bear mountain for the run. Im thinking of also stopping at the palisades mall if there is any one coming from that area that would also like to meet up. If no one says any thing I dont think im going to stop.

Regards
Dave

ok looks like we have some interest brewing, and we will stop at the palisades.

Here is the plan. Meet at Rye Playland around 9:15am, get on the road by 9:45ish, that should put us at the palisades by about 10:15am meet up with who ever is there then hit the road by about 10:45am. From there we will head to the bear mountain/seven lakes run and drive around up there for as long as people like.

Regards
Dave
