Also, please refresh my fading memory...I know a 911 speester was made in '89, but the newer model was what year?

You know, I am familiar with those types of Speedsters. They are pretty cool looking. The one I saw was a coupe?! Maybe the guy just replaced the rear script with the Speedster logo.

Perhaps a speedster running an aftermarket hardtop? "Speedster coupes" were never made...356 or 911, speedsters were all open topped cars. Check the low windshied height on the car in the pics...that's a good 911 speedster clue...windshield is much smaller than in a cabriolet or a coupe...

Porsche Crest

I am not sure if the factory made a hardtop option for the Speedster or not (I think 1989 and 1994 were the only U.S. model years), but I know there are after-market Speedster hardtops out there. One of the more exotic examples would be the hardtops (and accompanying body work) from the German tuner, "Strosek". Here are some pics of Strosek Speedster hardtop conversions done by Anziano's in California:

Now that would have caught my attention! I think I must have seen a turbo body style with the Speedster name bolted on.

I thought the other Speedster year was '94? Well, at least for the US models, right?

Here's some pics of a local '89 Speedster. Looks even more awesome in person. Tail is obviously not stock.
