Hi guys - I have a 1974 without any extra stuff. She had 23mm rear torsion bars, I am putting 26mm in now. According to the angle calcuator using 2400 pounds and Euro ride height I get a suggested 26-27 degrees. I can't seem to get that angle, I'm at 25 degrees on both sides with the car level.

Is that close enough get to Euro height with the eccentric bolts (I'm using later adjustable spring plates)?

When you installed the spring plates, where were the eccentric bolts (e.g. - in the middle of top to bottom travel, or all the way to either end?)? I think you can get roughly 1/2 either direction.

Have you done the combination of moving one spline in 1 direction and the opposite spline in the other? This will give you finer increments than just doing the inner spline a "tooth" for example.

There are a different number of splines on the inner and outer end. If you turn the torsion bars by one spline you will see that you move the spring plate to a different range of adjustment.

You'll need to understand the 40/44 spline disciplin for the T-bars.
Level ground is a must.
Sway bar and shocks need to be disconnected.
First set the shorter adjustment lever to the center of the longer plate so the eccentric bolts have a little adjustment up or down later for fine adjustments.
Then index the T-bars using 40/44 splines to obtain desired height.

Hi guys - she is a '74 so she had the non-adjustable spring plates on her. Everything is disconnected including shocks and trailing arm, no rear bar at this point.

I played with the inner / outer bar settings and now am at 26 degrees, so I'll button her back up and see where I am on the ground.

26? might be high... but I donno on the older cars... mine was about 22 degrees but I have stiffer T-bars too...

did you use the calculator?

Hi Ed, won't know until I get her back together but that is what the calc said for 2400 pounds and 26mm bars. The 23mm bars were in the high 30's.

write down exactly the angle in case you need to make changes you will have a point of reference

I set mine at 22.6 degrees using a digital level. 2313 lbs. with 26mm bars.

I will make sure to document and scribe the setting. I'd have guessed you would have needed 29mm+/- bars for a 22 angle to work, huh.

I'm getting the idea that I should be planning on a fair amount of trail and error here...

My 29 rears were about 20.5 degrees.

Spring plate angle calc is your friend here. Worked perfect with no trial and error.

Just for reference, my angle was 18 degrees with 31 bars and it was perfect. Exactly where the spreadsheet said. I actually used a level type app on my iPhone to set the angle. That also worked perfect.

Russ... that AP is cool..... I have an android and the ap is not nearly as good...wasnt able to "zero" for some stupid reason.... borrowed my son's iPhone and set the angle

as for my exact number...I actually forgot but I know it was low 20's - it will be interesting to see if the OP has it right since he said he used the calc and yes... I have 30 mm rears :)

Somewhat confusing. :confused:

Expect to repeat adjustments a few times and corner-balance is so much harder with non-adjustable plates. SmileWavy

here is a screen shot of the app. its called 'angle' i think. The degrees rotate around based on a horizontal line of 0 degrees. Its pretty handy as you can "set" the angle you need before you even install it into the car for a good starting point!

(In this picture, the phone is rotated, but the picture looks straight.) You simply lay the phone on the top edge of the spring plate and it reads the angle.

Just an FYI, I did my angle calculations using a Windows 7 Phone, app was free and it did let you "zero" your beginning angle.

I'm just say'in. :-)

OK guys - just a quick note to say THANKS for the help on this, and other threads. As a newbie I was kinda starting from scratch here, dealing with the DPO hacks, and the info y'all provided was a big help.

She's at 25 both sides now after a quick drive around the neighborhood, and I'd expect she'll settle some now. I want to end up just around 24.75 +/- and it looks like I'm within that ballpark especially with the adjustable spring plates on her now.

Next up is a proper alignment.
