Hi All,
1974, 2.7, CIS I’m replacing my fuel injectors. There is a plastic sleeve that goes around the fuel injectors – looks like it insulates the injector from the intake manifold. When I pulled the injectors a couple of the sleeves came out and a couple stayed in. These plastic sleeves have o-rings that mate to the intake manifold and on the ones that came out were pretty hard, I’d like to replace them all. Questions are: How do you get the plastic sleeves out and should I even be worrying about this? Thanks in advance! Mike |

Hello
This was covered before. The plastic heat insulators are secured by three liitle imprints on the edge. These will hold them inside the manifold. You can pull the old ones but if you insert new ones the edges have to be feiled away or they will scratch the new O-ring. This is normaly done with the manifold runners off the engine. You also can try to hammer them flat. The insulators also get brittle and can brake while pulling so be prepared to hunt for new ones. I have a little thined rubber care clycerine in a oilcan and just insert some drops on a inspection witch should prevent drying out from the O-ring. I don´t know if it really works as the cars are old anyway and on the renewed car´s no one returned yet ( Maybe some 10 years later ? ) Parker Präfidia stocks the o-ring in a higher quality. Check out your industrie suppley. Grüsse |

I had the same experience that you did when I replaced the injectors on my 82 911 SC.
I had a few of the sleeves come out and the others stay in. The components you want to replace are the injector O-ring (the small diameter thick one), the sleeve, and the small o-ring on the sleeve. To get the remaining sleeves out (with CIS getting all the intake runners off w/ the engine in and airbox on is virtually impossible), I found a tightly fitting bolt that could be screwed into the sleeve hole with the injector out. I placed this bolt into each sleeve on the runner and pryed the sleeve out. I was able to get them all out like this except for #4...which I'll get at the next time I need to remove the engine for something else. New ones simply snap in. Good Luck. Mike, I used a Dremel with a small grinding (?) tip to remove the three imprints Roland mentioned. To secure the new plastic inserts, I drilled a 1.6 mm hole through the intake runner and the upper wall of the insert, cut a thread and put a tiny screw (M2 x 8mm, match the exact length by hand!) into it.
