Can I Switch WURs ?
I ve got this style WUR in my 74 2.7 (file photo)
![]() And I'd like to switch to this style (file photo)below If possible how would I rewire it.?(from two wires to one) ![]() This style WUR came with my newer FD off a running car. Thanks |

I don't think so. You can test a few things with yours. The resistance over the two terminals on the 2.7 should not be open. If it is open (no reading) then the heating element is broken. You may be able to trade the heating element of the bimetallic strip from one to the other to fix it if that is the case. That's a big maybe.
I bet most probs are with the heating element cracking and not heating up with the electricity. I think that is because of people "whacking the plug". That heating element is ceramic and thin. Broken, the wur will not change pressure until it heats up with the engine, that's if you can start it. It will be very hard to find just the heating elements for these wurs. The bimetallic strip is calibrated for the car. The setting of its height is more precise that banging it with punch and hammer. You can read about all of the lore and voodoo here in the forums. Find the right one and buy it. Good luck.

My understanding is their both for a 74 2.7,but I not sure why they are different?

The bottom photo is of a factory (001) 73.5 and 74 CIS wur though the top photo shows one that will work as well. If you have the later version (top photo), then you also have either adapters on the inlet/out ports or the fuel line/return lines have been changed--that is also a consideration if you plan to change.
The electrical connector on the early wur is the positive connector. You do not need a ground lead so, using an electrical adapter at your existing connector, you can wire just the positive lead to the old style wur. Keep in mind, the old style is adjustable but not repairable.

Great info The old style one works,and came with all the lines required for install. I won't toss the newer style WUR, now that I know its repairable. |

Both WUR's would work.......

I just switched the WURs,and I just wanted to add that shorter bolts or washers are required as well.
Just in case someone else in the future does the swap. |
