pedal cluster '86 911 reinstall question
clutch spring on pedal cluster broke. removed the cluster, rebuilt with brass bushings. question is putting it back in. any trick to attaching the clutch stop bolt with the spring in? i doubt i can reattach the spring if i reinstall it without the spring attached. too much tension and the space is limited. can't seem to get the bolt started with the spring in...........tricks????
thanks |
A few people have recommended the washer trick. Expand the spring and insert washers. If you can't make that work, then the only option is a pair of vice grips and a screw driver or pry bar for leverage. I did brass bushings a few years ago, don't remember exactly.

It's been a few years since I last did this and I remeber it being a major pita. But what I ended up using is a drum brak "spoon". Tool to apply enough pressure on the spring to re set it once the pedal cluster was in.
Good luck. |
got the cluster back in and the spring on
thanks for the suggestions, thick washers in the extended spring did the trick. the job was a pita. i did a 70 911 20 years ago and it was simple compared to a '86, or maybe i was just younger......:)

Porsche idiots did not think through with repair sequences. A good car for the basic concept. Would not match the Mercedes attention to detail and quality:mad::mad:
