Notes from replacing front wheel bearings and flexible brake line
 

I recently finished replacing the front wheel bearings and and flexible brake lines on my 1980 911 SC. Overall it was a straight forward job as described in the Bentley manual but there were a few little things that weren't that obvious and that I could not find on here either. So here is a quick write-up for future reference. I hope others will add more details and/or correct me if there are better ways to get it done.

Replacing the front flexible brake line
Well, the picture says it all. Make sure to put as little load as possible on the "ears" holding the lines.

Fitting the inner grease seal
I forgot the check which way the old grease seal was put on before it was removed and could not find any pictures of how it is supposed to be. Fortunately my local supplier could help out and told me that seals are always (?) mounted with the lettering on the outside. So the lip that is closer to the edge should be towards you as you tap the seal in place in the hub.

Since the old line will be thrown away, you can cut it close the the connector and use a socket (vice a flare wrench) to counter hold while unscrewing the solid brake line.

Thank you for the info on the direction of the seals. I pressed in new races, new 66mm wheel studs, greased up the inner bearings, and went "OH SNAP" when I went to press in the first new inner seal. It's been six plus years since I've done my hubs and have no recollection of right or wrong.
