I have an 83 SC and have just replaced the handbrake cables. To do this I had to remove the heater controlbox mounted over the handbrake lever between the drivers and pasengeres seats. The heater control box has some sort of servo which connects to a lever mounted on the handbrake lever top plate . This lever seems very stiff in operation, however the control valves under the rear of the car seem free to move Ok. Are the connecting cable likely to worn and binding?? in use the servo unit used to make quite a lot of but worked OK. Any advice please!!

Are you saying that the lever is stiff when disconnected from the servo, or when connected to the servo?

Mine was disconnected when I bought my car. It really wouldn't move at all. After lubricating the heater box doors and cables, it was still very stiff. Several posters assured me this was normal. The servo seems very strong.
