Wheel lock removal........

After several years of ownership, the owner of a '78 SC found out today that he does not have the key to the wheel locks installed on the car. He has asked me to get them off. I've never removed a locked wheel-lock before so my question is how to get them off with minimal damaged to the wheel/s. See picture below.

Any tip, suggestion, recommendation is well appreciated. Thanks.

Tony

Pick the lock. Or maybe
drill out the key way use a bit small enough to destroy pins/wafers along shear line.

If its a factory lock, drilling out the guts takes about 5 seconds and then it slides off. Underneath is the hollowish lug nut that is then removed. You will need a standard lug nut to replace it.

I see the lock cylinder is still there, but it looks like the locking sleeve that covers the bolt has been broken off long ago.

Just put a socket on the nut and remove it.

DRIVE a 12 point deepwell socket, just a tad to small, over the locking lug.

I was able to get a locksmith to make a key for me. Some of the better shops can do it, but I'd buy the right blanks online before bringing it to them. They rarely have the right blanks in stock.

You will have to do your research on the brand of locks and the blanks they use.

Unlock all the others bolts , but just a bit.

Drive slowly during 3/4 kilometers .

You'll normally be able to unlock the bolt blocked.

Thieves proceed sometimes like that.

The day before , they unlock the bolts , the day after you loose your wheels.
