911 sc cigarette lighter
So about a month ago, i bought a little 12volt plug in heater and it worked for about a week until the tip of the plug melted/ cracked, im really not sure which. so i just cut it off wired it into the battery
![]() ![]() Anyways, i just bought a gps (its more expensive than the 10 dollar heater) and im hesitant to plug it in in fear of the same thing occurring. so i took some pictures of the inside of the cigarette lighter to see if everything was fine before I do. the tab on the right side is bent into the middle, im not sure if it is supposed to be this way or not, but the tab on the left side is not bent, it is straight any info would be helpful thanks scott ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The SC cig hole is a little bigger than the US standard. I would suggest wiring in a port unde the dash.

The cigarette lighter socket is not designed for heaters. Way too much current draw I think. If your socket still works, still supplies 12V, the GPS should be no problem. Much less current. I also would bend the right side tab back towards the side..

I had power in my 83 SC, but could never get anything to work because of the size. Tried a few tricks to no avail, so installed an outlet under the dash beneath the glovebox utilizing a previous hole in bottom of glovebox. Works great and can't be seen.

you used to be able to get a sleeve that went in the car and adapted it to the standard size .. I have one in mine .. I'll see if i can get it out and if it has a part number or ?? on it ..
I am sure you could shim it .. its only two connection .. a ground and positive .. Steve |

you can also take apart the plug and bend the two pieces of metal on the sides out further so they make good contact with the sides of the holder.

Heat sensitive clip pictured, centers and retains lighter element until red hot. Expansion releases. Spring retracts.
Electric tape converts smaller to larger. 12v is 12v |
