Does anyone use their 80's era OEM alarm system?
Just wondering - I'm hesitant to try mine, but on my 85 Carrera there's a lock mechanism in the door jam part of the driver's door. I'm not quite sure how it works, but I think you turn that key, then close the door and lock it. Then to open the car, you unlock the car, open the door partially and unlock that key. Does this thing work? Is it worth using??

I am not sure how it works but I use mine on my '87 when traveling or at worrisome locales. It seems to work fine. You just have to be careful opening the door so it doesn't go off when you want to disarm it. It does make a noise. I don't use it at work or at home.

I don't know the code for my Clifford system. I really wanna gut it out but I'm scared. I pulled out and disconnected the ridiculous horns in the smuggler's box. I also moved the silly motion detector. The keypad input has been wrecked to bits but I glued it all back together because the installer ripped a huge hole in the dash that I can't cover up. Well, it's not the hole that's the problem, it's the stupid 4 screw holes on the corners of the keypad that I can't cover up. Also, the ignition plastic circle thing has been cut to fit the keypad. Dumb!!! In any event, I'll gut it all out at some point once I figure out what I can place over all those stupid dash holes under the keypad.

It seems to me there are more electrical problems arising from these aftermarket systems, that offset whatever good they may do. Best defense is insured value, IMO.

I had the factory door jam system. Used it for years until I lost the key. Worked fine and it would be nice to have but I live in the Texas hill country and don't even keep the top on the car (targa) let alone lock it up. Too many guns around here too worry about car theft.

Can someone post a picture of the door jamb lock? My 89 SAE doesn't have it, but it does have the factory immobilizer. I'm curious as to how it looks.

Actually the OEM Porsche alarm system is pretty well covered in the Bentley book. My 79 Sc came with a dealer installed Clifford alarm that does not work right anymore. I could not disarm it though I had the code. So the car would not start. I disconnected the Clifford horn relay and didsconnected a multi wire rectangular connector coupling coming from the mail control unit. That did the trick of diconnecting the alarm and everything else on the car operated normally.
